My Story

My name is Gerry Browne and I have witnessed first hand what it is like to live with COPD, a devastating degenerative lung disease.

My Dad suffered with it for over 15 years, gradually losing his capacity to breathe with every lung infection, ultimately resulting in his death. It was difficult to watch him decline; although having been diagonosed with COPD stage 4 we, as a family, were still lucky to have him for as long as we did.

I want to mark his memory and do something constructive that may, in a small way, assist other COPD sufferers and their families.

This October I intend to trek to Everest Base Camp and climb Island Peak (Imja Tse) a summit of 6165 metres. I want to raise funds for COPD as part of my trek. Ironically, I may find breathing difficult at these heigths. However, this would be temporary and resolved quickly, unlike the many that find breathing difficult every day with COPD.

I am a practising accountant, married and residing in Dublin.

I would welcome your support.

Thank you for your generosity.
